NGC 4470 = NGC 4610 is a spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type Sa in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 101 million light years from the Milky Way and about 40,000 light years in diameter. It is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster under catalog number VVC 1205 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4465 , NGC 4466 , NGC 4467 , NGC 4472 .
The object was discovered twice by Wilhelm Herschel ; January 23, 1784 (discovery listed as NGC 4610) and December 28, 1785 (listed as NGC 4470).
