NGC 4473 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E5 in the constellation Coma Berenices the northern sky . It is estimated to be 98 million light years from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 130,000 ly. It belongs to both the Virgo Galaxy Cluster ( VCC 1231 ) and the Markarjan Chain .
The object was discovered on April 8, 1784 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
