NGC 4497 = IC 3452 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0-a in the constellation Virgo in the northern sky , which is an estimated 44 million light years away from the Milky Way .
The object was discovered on March 15, 1784 by the astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
