NGC 4520 = IC 799 is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 336 million light years from the Milky Way and about 110,000 light years in diameter.
The galaxies NGC 4487 and NGC 4504 are located in the same area of the sky .
The Type Ia supernova SN 2000bk was observed here.
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on March 20, 1789 .
