The CMA CGM 22,000 TEU type is a series of nine container ships under construction for the French shipping company CMA CGM . With a transport capacity of 22,000 standard containers , they are expected to be among the largest container ships in the world after completion at the end of 2019 [obsolete] .

history

The ships were ordered in 2017 and by the since July 26, 2018 China State Shipbuilding Corporation in the shipyards of the Jiangnan Shipyard and Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding in Shanghai built. The order volume is approximately 1.2 billion US dollars. The delivery of the first two ships of this type is expected from the end of 2019 [obsolete] .

technology

The container ships of the CMA CGM 22,000 TEU type are powered by liquefied natural gas , making them the first large container ships to use this type of fuel . Compared to other container ships of this size that run on conventional marine fuel, this reduces emissions in some cases significantly. It is expected that around 25% less CO 2 , 99% less sulfur dioxide and fine dust and 85% less nitrogen oxides will be emitted. The switch to this fuel is due to the stricter limit values of the International Maritime Organization for the sulfur content in marine fuels that will apply from 2020 .

The bow of the ships of this series is no longer designed in the form of a bulge , as was previously the case with ships of this type , since the increases in efficiency of this more expensive construction with reduced water resistance in modern slow steaming liner traffic are no longer worthwhile.
