The size designation Ultra Large Container Ship (ULCS) or Ultra Large Container Vessel (ULCV) (German: Ultragroßes Containerschiff), also Megaboxer , is the group of the largest container ships currently in use .

details

The size specification Ultra Large Container Ship refers to container ships which, depending on the definition, can transport standard containers between well over 10,500 and 12,000 ( TEU ). The first type of ship of this size was the "E" class built from 2006 by the Danish Odense Staalskibsværft . In all ULCS designs that were built according to the Mærsk "E" class, the machinery is arranged aft and the deckhouse far forward, which enables an improved line of sight and thus higher forward deck loading. Among other things, the bunker tanks are arranged below the superstructure in order to meet the applicable MARPOL regulations. Except for the Mærsk “E” class, all other types were built in shipyards in Asia - especially in the South Korean shipyards Daewoo, Hyundai and Samsung. Other types were built at Chinese and Japanese shipyards.

At the turn of the year 2008/09, 53 ships of this size were already under construction or completed, and another 154 were planned or ordered.
