The ships of the APL Temasek type are ULCS - container ships .
history
The series was commissioned in June 2011 by the Singaporean shipping company Neptune Orient Lines and built from 2012 by the South Korean shipyard Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Company. The ships are used under the names of the shipping companies American President Lines and Mitsui OSK Lines . The first delivered ship of the eight units to be built was the APL Temasek , which was put into service in 2013 . The ships are used on the Europe-Far East route.
Several ships of the class were lengthened in 2018 and the superstructures increased.
technology
The double hull ships belong to the group of ULCS container ships. A number of details in terms of environmental protection in shipping are striking in terms of shipbuilding . In contrast to the majority of conventional container ships, the deckhouse is arranged far forward, which enables an improved line of sight and thus higher forward deck loading. A special feature of the deck structure of the ships is their extension over the entire width of the ship, which is supposed to offer greater security against piracy and other attacks. The deckhouse of later units in this series is conventionally built in the area of the upper decks and does not extend over the entire deck width. Among other things, the bunker tanks are arranged below the superstructure in order to meet the latest MARPOL regulations. The drive system with the two-stroke diesel main engine of the type MAN B&W 11S90ME-C9.2 manufactured under license by Hyundai Heavy Industries is arranged far aft. To improve maneuverability, transverse thrusters are arranged in the bow and stern. The holds of the ships are closed with pontoon hatch covers. The ships have a maximum container capacity of around 13,900 to 14,000 TEU , with an average container weight of fourteen tons, the capacity is reduced. There are also connections for integral refrigerated containers .
