Newcastlemax is a size specification for ships . It describes the largest possible type of bulk carrier with which the largest coal export port in the world, Newcastle in Australia , can be called. Ships of this type with a maximum width of 47 m have a carrying capacity of around 180,000 tons. A Newcastlemax ship is therefore a subspecies of the Capesize category in terms of dimensions .
