Baltimax

The Danish Belte and Sunde , which limit the dimensions of Baltimax ships

Baltimax is a size specification for ships and states that the corresponding ship is small enough to get from the Kattegat through the Great Belt into the Baltic Sea (and vice versa). In practice this means that the draft of the ships is limited to 15.4  m . As a rule, it is between 13 and 15 m, the length between 240 and 260 m and the width between 42 and 48 m, resulting in a load-bearing capacity of around 100,000 to 120,000  t . However, there are also oil tankers with a payload of over 205,000 t, called B-Max . The Storebælt Bridge allows max. 65 m height. The limits in depth and width are therefore between the Suezmax and Panamax classes. The Øresund only allows a draft of 8 m and is therefore not an alternative route, just like the much shorter Kiel Canal , which only allows a draft of 9.5 m and a headroom of 42 m.
