Wozmax

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wozmax is a size specification for ships . It denotes a type of bulk carrier that was developed by the Japanese shipyard Namura Shipbuilding in order to be able to reach the Western Australian ore ports of Port Hedland , Port Walcott and Dampier with a higher loading capacity . Ships of this type are almost 330 m long and have a carrying capacity of just over 250,000 tons. The largest ships commonly used in this area to date have a carrying capacity of around 170 to 180,000 tons. A Wozmax ship is therefore a subspecies of the Capesize category in terms of dimensions .

The abbreviation "Wozmax" is derived from the components W for West, OZ for Australia (Australian English / Slang) and Max for maximal.
