The ships of the OOCL M-class , also known as the OOCL-Brussels type , were among the world's largest container ships when they were commissioned from 2013 .
history
The series has been built in Koje by the South Korean shipyard Samsung Heavy Industries since 2012 and is expected to include ten units by 2014. The client for the series is the Hong Kong-based Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL). Six ships came into service for OOCL, four in charter for the Japanese shipping company NYK by 2016 . All ships of the class are to be used in liner service between Europe and East Asia.
During the testing of the OOCL Brussels , the propeller shaft was seriously damaged, which will lead to a delayed delivery.
technology
The M-class ships classified by the American Bureau of Shipping belong to the group of ULCS container ships. In terms of shipbuilding, the deckhouse is striking: unlike the majority of conventional container ships, it is arranged far forward, which enables an improved line of sight and thus a higher forward deck loading. In terms of environmental protection in maritime shipping , the bunker tanks arranged below the superstructure are worth mentioning, which meet MARPOL regulations. The holds of the ships are closed with pontoon hatch covers. The ships have a maximum container capacity of around 13,200 TEU , with an average container weight of fourteen tons, the capacity is reduced to around 9080 units. There are also 800 connections for integral refrigerated containers .
The ships are powered by a twelve - cylinder two - stroke diesel engine from MAN B&W (type: 12S90ME-C9.2) built under license by Hyundai , the output of which is electronically limited from the normal 69,720 kW to 54,200 kW.
