The ships of the Hyundai 13,000 TEU standard type are ULCS - container ships .
history
The series has been built by Hyundai Heavy Industries at its two shipyards in Ulsan and Samho since 2010 . With its various variants, this type of ship is the most built of all ULCS to date. So far around 50 units of this series have been built and more are under construction.
The series built or under construction to date:
- Ten units (delivered or under construction) for Hapag-Lloyd - see Hamburg Express class
- Eight units for Rickmers Reederei in charter for Maersk Line - see Maersk-Edinburgh class
- Eight units for Seaspan Corporation in charter for COSCO Container Lines (COSCON)
- Nine units for MPC Münchmeyer Petersen & Co. , later taken over by Hanjin directly or via a leasing company
- Five units for Zodiac Maritime in charter for Maersk Line - see Maersk-Edinburgh class
- Eight units for ER Schiffahrt all in service for MSC, partly in charter with the Mediterranean Shipping Company , partly sold to MSC and Sinoceanic - see Maersk-Edinburgh class
- Five units for Danaos Shipping in charter for Hyundai Merchant Marine
technology
The double hull ships were among the largest container ships in the world when they were built. Their Neopanamax dimensions will allow them to pass through the Panama Canal once it has been expanded. A number of innovations and details are striking in terms of shipbuilding, especially in terms of environmental protection in the shipping industry . In contrast to the majority of conventional container ships, the deckhouse is arranged far forward, which enables an improved line of sight and thus higher forward deck loading. Among other things, the bunker tanks are arranged below the superstructure in order to meet the latest MARPOL regulations. The powerful drive system with the two-stroke diesel main engine positioned as far aft as possible is also outstanding. In the bow there are two transverse thrusters, each with an output of 1800 kW. The holds of the ships are closed with pontoon hatch covers. Depending on the variant, the ships have a somewhat different container capacity of around 13,100 TEU ; with an average container weight of fourteen tons, the capacity drops to around 9,000 TEU. There are also 800 to 1000 connections for integral refrigerated containers .
