The Hamburg Express class is a series of ULCS - container ships of the Hamburg shipping company Hapag-Lloyd . They are part of the 13,000 TEU standard type from Hyundai Heavy Industries and were built in Ulsan , South Korea from 2012 to 2014 .

The ships in the Hamburg Express class are part of the Post Panamax ships operated by the Hapag-Lloyd shipping company . The class consists of a total of ten ships.

Six of the total of ten ships are based on construction contracts that originally provided for smaller units of 8,750 TEU, but were later converted into construction contracts of this larger type.

In 2012 three ships were delivered (see table for current status); the first of these (named after Hamburg Express ) was christened on August 17, 2012 in Hamburg . All ships in the series are used by Hapag-Lloyd in liner services between the Far East and Europe.

A total of 1.4 billion US dollars are said to have been invested in the ships of the class, which all sailed under the German flag.

Up to 20 containers can be loaded on top of each other in the ships, eleven of them below and nine on deck. 19 rows fit side by side in width. The container spaces are divided into 22 container bays. Eight of these are in front of the deckhouse , ten between the deckhouse and the chimney above the engine room area and four more in the aft section .

The ships are powered by an eleven- cylinder two - stroke diesel engine made by MAN Diesel & Turbo with an output of 52,447  kW . You can reach a maximum speed of 23.6  kn . Four generators with a total output of around 13,700 kW are available for the power supply. In addition, the ships will be equipped with a shaft generator with an output of 4,500 kW, which can be used at sea for the power supply on board.
