The Korean Register of Shipping (abbreviated: Korean Register or KR; German: Koreanisches Schiffsregister) based in Busan is a global classification society .

The company was founded in South Korea in 1960 and has been working in the field of ship classification ever since. In the years of its existence, the KR expanded its activities from the exclusively ship-related survey to related areas, such as damage surveys, classification of offshore and industrial structures or the area of ​​maritime research. KR was accepted as a full member of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) in 1988 and works with an ISO 9001- compliant quality management system.

The KRS has been listed in the classification requirements of the Institute of London Underwriters (ILU) since 1990. Furthermore, KR is an extraordinary member of the International Association of Dry Cargo Shipowners (INTERCARGO) and the International Association of Independent Tanker Owners (INTERTANKO). The company has 67 branches around the world and is authorized by 78 countries to classify ships under their flag. Currently about 3200 ships with a gross measurement of around 72 million GT are classified by the KR.

German customers include Oldendorff Shipping Lübeck, Berhard Schulte Shipping Hamburg, V-Ships Germany Hamburg, Liberty Blue Shipmanagement Leer, Briese Leer etc.

In Germany, KR has a branch in Hamburg and a smaller office for industrial tours in Frankfurt am Main.
