The Hôtel de Musique is a society building on Theaterplatz in Bern .

history

The society house was built by Niklaus Sprüngli for the Grande Société (Bern) on behalf of a joint-stock company founded especially for this purpose in 1766 . The Hôtel de Musique in Bern , which still exists today, is one of the oldest in Switzerland. Until 1798 the building was only allowed to be used for balls and celebrations , but not as a theater , despite the built-in stage . The theater hall was expanded between 1836 and 1838. Between 1862 and 1903 the Hôtel de Musique was builtused as a city theater. The first meeting of the Federal Assembly took place in the theater of the Hôtel de Musique on November 6, 1848 .

In 1904 and 1905 the building was renovated. The outside stairs and the proportions of the ground floor were destroyed. The theater hall disappeared entirely.

The purpose of the Aktiengesellschaft des Hôtel de Musique in Bern, registered in the commercial register, is:

«Maintenance and management of the company building at Theaterplatz 7 / Hotelgasse 10, in Bern, known as the Hôtel de Musique, as well as any other properties; In addition to preserving the architecturally valuable substance of the Hôtel de Musique, the traditional and cultural use of the Hôtel de Musique as a social center and restaurant. "

The Hôtel de Musique also serves as the registered office for the Swiss commander of the Order of St. John .
