NGC 4474 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Haar der Berenike in the northern sky . It is an estimated 70 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 50,000 ly. The galaxy is listed as a member of the Virgo Galaxy Cluster under catalog number VVC 1242 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4459 , NGC 4468 , IC 3432 , IC 3442 .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on April 8, 1784 .
