NGC 4462 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBab in the constellation Raven south of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 73 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 70,000 ly. The galaxy has an area of 3.2 ′ × 1.1 ′ and an apparent magnitude of 12.0 mag.
The Type Ia supernova SN 1998bn was observed here.
The object was discovered on March 26, 1789 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
