NGC 4813 is a 13.5 mag bright spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type Sa in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 58 million light years from the Milky Way and about 25,000 light years across .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4775 , NGC 4786 , IC 833 , IC 3908 .
The object was discovered on March 23, 1789 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "F, S, R, bM".
