NGC 4819 is a 13.2 likes bright barred spiral galaxy with an active galactic nucleus from Hubble type SBa in the constellation Coma Berenices the northern sky . It is estimated to be 289 million light years from the Milky Way and about 105,000 light years across. Together with NGC 4821 , it forms the galaxy pair Holm 490 and is considered a member of the Coma galaxy cluster Abell 1656 .
The galaxies NGC 4827 , IC 835 , IC 3900 , IC 3913 are located in the same area of the sky .

The object was discovered on April 6, 1785 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as “F, pL, irregular figure”.
