NGC 4827 is a 12.9 mag bright elliptical galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Haar der Berenike in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 341 million light years from the Milky Way and about 140,000 light years in diameter. The galaxy is a member of the Coma galaxy cluster Abell 1656 .
In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4819 , NGC 4821 , IC 3900 , IC 3913 .

The object was discovered on April 11, 1785 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "F, pL".
