NGC 4850 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 with an active galaxy core in the constellation Haar der Berenike in the northern sky . It is an estimated 270 million light years from the Milky Way and about 55,000 light years in diameter. The galaxy is a member of the Coma galaxy cluster Abell 1656 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4851 , IC 839 , IC 3943 , IC 3946 .
The object was discovered by Heinrich d'Arrest on April 22, 1865 .
