NGC 4848 is an active bar-spiral galaxy with extensive star formation areas of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Haar der Berenike in the northern sky . It is an estimated 316 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 150,000 ly. The galaxy is a member of the Coma galaxy cluster Abell 1656 .
The galaxies NGC 4851 , NGC 4858 , IC 839 , IC 3943 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Heinrich Louis d'Arrest on April 21, 1865 .
