NGC 4853 is an elliptical galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Haar der Berenike in the northern sky . It is an estimated 343 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 80,000 ly. The galaxy is considered a member of the Coma galaxy cluster Abell 1656 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4854 , IC 3957 , IC 3946 , IC 3947 .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on April 13, 1831 .
