IC 3947 is a lenticular dwarf galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Coma Berenices in the northern sky . It is an estimated 254 million light years away from the Milky Way , has a diameter of about 20,000 ly, and is a member of the Coma Galaxy Cluster .
The galaxies IC 3946 , IC 3949 , IC 3957 , IC 3959 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Hermann Kobold on May 12, 1896 .
