IC 3959 is an elliptical galaxy from the Hubble type E0 in the constellation Coma Berenices the northern sky . It is an estimated 317 million light years from the Milky Way , about 45,000 ly in diameter, and is a member of the Coma Galaxy Cluster .
The galaxies IC 3947 , IC 3949 , IC 3957 , IC 3963 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Hermann Kobold on May 12, 1896 .
