IC 3957 is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E0 in the constellation Coma Berenices in the northern sky . It is an estimated 284 million light years from the Milky Way , has a diameter of about 35,000 ly, and is a member of the Coma Galaxy Cluster .
The galaxies IC 3947 , IC 3949 , IC 3959 , IC 3963 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Hermann Kobold on May 12, 1896 .
