NGC 4821 is a 14.5 mag bright elliptical galaxy of the Hubble-type E4 in the constellation Haar der Berenike in the northern sky . It is an estimated 316 million light years from the Milky Way and about 45,000 light years in diameter. Together with NGC 4819 , it forms the galaxy pair Holm 490 and is considered a member of the Coma galaxy cluster Abell 1656 .

The object was discovered on April 6, 1864 by Heinrich Louis d'Arrest .
