Marco Cusin (born February 28, 1985 in Pordenone , Friuli ) is an Italian basketball player . As a professional player, Cusin has so far played exclusively for Italian club teams and as a national player took part in two European Championship finals in 2011 and 2013 .

Career

Cusin grew up in the youth teams of the then Italian top club from Trieste . In 2002 he was in the squad of the men's team to first brief appearances in the top division Lega Basket Serie A . In the 2003/04 season the team slipped to the penultimate place in the table. In addition to the sporting descent, the professional team was liquidated and no longer received a license for the second division. Cusin moved to Piedmont to the previous league competitor Lauretana from Biella . In the 2004/05 season he was only able to avoid relegation in the third from last place in the table, but improved in the following season under the new name sponsor Angelico to eighth place and made it into the play-offs for the championship, in which you were eliminated in the first round against defending champion Fortitudo Climamio Bologna . Cusin, who was only able to increase his game shares slowly in Biella to an average of almost ten minutes playing time per game, went one class lower in the Legadue in the 2006/07 season , where he played for Carife in Ferrara . In mid-February 2007, he moved to the league rivals from Fabriano , who missed the play-offs for promotion to the top division in tenth place at the end of the season. The following season Cusin played for Triboldi Vanoli from Soresina also in the second division. This lost the semi-final series of the second division play-offs in 2008 against the eventual winner and promoted Pepsi Caserta . At the end of the 2008/09 season, it was enough for the Lombard team as third in the main round to win the play-offs and for the first time promotion to Serie A. After his return to the top division, Cusin was now part of the expanded squad of the Italian men's national team . At the premiere in Serie A it was enough for the now merged with Juvi Cremona team in third from last place in the league shortened by one team to keep up.

For the 2010/11 season, Cusin returned to the Adriatic and played in Pesaro for Scavolini. After tenth place in 2011, it was enough in the following season to sixth place after the main round and for the second time after being promoted again in 2007 to move into the play-offs for the championship. After two opening defeats, including a disastrous 47:74 away defeat, they were able to win the following three games in the first play-off round against the old masters from Cantù and move into the semi-final series, in which they were eliminated by record champions Olimpia Armani Milan . For the following season, Cusin then moved back to Lombardy and now played for the quarter-final loser from Cantù. At the start of the season they won the Supercoppa and after winning the qualification they were also represented in the top-ranking European club competition ULEB Euroleague 2012/13 . There it was only enough to win three games in ten preliminary round games, which was not enough to advance, and in Serie A you only got into the play-offs as seventh-placed team. Here you could fight down Banco di Sardegna Sassari in seven games , but in the semi-final series against Acea Rom you lost the sixth and seventh game and were eliminated. After Cusin had already participated as a supplementary player with short appearances in the 2011 European Championship finals tournament in the Italian national team, in which they had disappointed after only one preliminary round victory, he was also in the squad of the senior national team at the 2013 European Championship finals tournament . At this tournament, in which Cusin was the best rebounder of his team, they were initially able to convince and won all five preliminary round games, but then only one victory against defending champions Spain in the second round and after further defeats in the quarterfinals and the placement games they missed the qualification for the 2014 World Basketball Championship . With Cantù, Cusin reached the intermediate round in the Eurocup 2013/14 , in which, however, they lost the direct comparison against the German representative ratiopharm Ulm and were eliminated very tightly and under dramatic circumstances with one point difference in the last group game . In the Italian championship they started as a third-placed team from a much better starting position than last year, but they lost all three games and the series again against the former runner-up Acea Rome. After the end of the season, Cusin's contract in Cantù ended.
