Christian Charles Burns (born September 4, 1985 in Trenton , New Jersey ) is an American - Italian basketball player . After studying in his home country, Burns played as a professional in Europe, including in the 2009/10 basketball league for the German first division club ratiopharm Ulm.

Career

Burns went to Quinnipiac University to study in 2003 , where he played for the college team Bobcats in the NCAA Division I Northeast Conference (NEC) . The Bobcats achieved no national success in the first division and after two years Burns moved to Philadelphia University , whose college teams Rams play in Division II of the NCAA.

Despite the less good conditions of having only played in insignificant university teams, Burns began a career as a professional player in 2007, which led him to the first Polish league Polska Liga Koszykówki to AZS from Koszalin in his first season 2007/08 . After another season in Portugal for the basketball team of FC Porto, Burns got a contract with the German club ratiopharm from Ulm in 2009 . After a fifth place in the preseason and the first play-off participation after being promoted again, the Ulm team clearly missed another play-off participation in the 2009/10 basketball Bundesliga in 13th place in the main round table . Then Burns moved to the Basketball Super League Ukraine to Ferro-SNTU from Zaporizhia . In the 2011/12 season Burns then played in the Israeli Ligat ha'Al for Elitzur from Netanya . In the eleven-team league, the club narrowly missed participation in the play-offs for the championship in third from bottom place in the table.

For the 2012/13 season Burns moved to the first Italian league Lega Basket Serie A to Sutor Basket from Montegranaro . With the club he reached a 13th place in the main round table, as in Ulm, which was not enough for participation in the final round of the championship. Burns then moved to Russia to BK Jenissei from Krasnoyarsk . A year later he switched to the Czech series champion ČEZ Basketball from Nymburk , who, like Yenisei Krasnoyarsk, plays in the Eastern European VTB United League for the 2014/15 season . With Nymburk he became Czech champion and switched to the Al-Wasl Sport Club in the United Arab Emirates for the season. In 2015 he received the Italian citizenship. In November 2016 he signed with the Italian first division club Brescia. He was part of the Italian national team for the 2017 European Championship.

For the 2018/19 season he moved to Olimpia Milan . In a doping sample from Burns' taken on May 12, 2019, the prohibited substance Clostebol was found. In July 2019, he was acquitted of the doping charge by the Italian anti-doping court.
