history

The Ordensburg Braunsberg on the Passarge was built in 1240 and fell victim to a Prussian uprising in 1242 . In 1243 the papal legate William of Modena divides the monastic land into four dioceses; Warmia will be one of them . In 1260 the castle was destroyed again in a Prussian uprising . In 1340 Bishop Herman of Prague took up residence in the castle. After the Thirteen Years War , Warmia comes under the Polish crown. In 1565 Stanislaus Hosius founded the Lyceum Hosianum in Braunsberg Castle . From the former castle only the corner tower, the so-called Pfaffenturm and the battlement with the moat are preserved. But you can still read the square floor plan of the former Ordensburg on the school buildings.
