Kristaps Janičenoks (born March 14, 1983 in Riga , Soviet Union ) is a Latvian basketball player . He is currently playing the forward position for the Latvian club BK Ventspils .
Career as a player
society
Kristaps Janičenoks started his career in Riga. He had his first success at the U-16 European Championship in 1999, where he stood out as an accurate scorer with an average of 23.5 points. Until the 2002/2003 season he played in the Latvian league for Broceni Riga. He then played for various European clubs for seven years before returning to Latvia in 2010. In the 2003/04 season he was Belgian cup winner with Liège. In 2004/2005 he made his debut in the Eurocup with the Telekom Baskets Bonn . In the 2005/06 season he completed two games in the Euroleague for Fortitudo Bologna . With Bologna (2007/08) and VEF Riga (2010-2013) he came to further assignments in the Eurocup. After returning to VEF, he became Latvian champion three times in a row. Since the 2010/11 season he has also played with VEF in the VTB United League . Here he was named the best Latvian player in the 2012/13 season.
National team
Kristaps Janičenoks took part in five European championships with the Latvian national basketball team. He scored 13.3 points per game at the 2005 European Championships , 15.5 at the 2007 European Championships and 13.3 points per game at the 2009 European Championships . In all three tournaments he finished 13th with Latvia. At the EM 2013 he was the top scorer of his team, which reached 11th place, with 11.5 points per game. At the 2015 European Championships he scored 9.6 points per game, the team finished the tournament in 8th place.
