The BK Ventspils is a basketball club from Ventspils in Latvia . He currently (2013/14) plays in the EuroChallenge , the BBL and the LBL .
history
“BK Ventspils” was founded in 1994. The first successes came from the 1997/98 season. One reached the play-off final of the LBL. This success was repeated the following year. Both finals were lost to the Latvian long-time champion of the 90s BK Brocēni. In the 1999/2000 season BK Ventspils became Latvian champions for the first time. In the following years no team was able to push BK Ventspils from the national throne. They won seven championships in a row. Only in 2008 this dominance was broken by ASK Riga. BK Ventspils managed to win its eighth national title in 2009. Internationally, BK Ventspils made his debut in the 1997/98 season in the Korać Cup . There you reached the second round. Since then, Ventspils has been a regular participant in various European club competitions. In the 2002/03 season, third place could be taken in the NEBL . In the following season the club achieved the greatest success on the European level with a third place in the FIBA EuroCup Challenge . In the absence of favorites Žalgiris Kaunas and Lietuvos Rytas , Ventspils won the BBL in the 2012/13 season . In the following season 2013/14 Ventspils managed to win a Latvian title again after a long break. With nine titles, Ventspils is the sole Latvian record champion.
