Rickey Paulding (born October 23, 1982 in Detroit , Michigan ) is an American basketball player .

career

Paulding played from 2000 to 2004 at the University of Missouri in the first NCAA division and stood out in the university team, especially in his last two years, as a player with a train to the basket, who knew how to use his speed and jumping power profitably. In the 2002/03 season he scored an average of 17.4 and 2003/04 15.1 points per encounter. With a total of 1673 points, he was eighth in the University of Missouri's all-time basket hunter list.

The 1.96 m tall and 100 kg heavy Paulding was selected in the 2004 NBA Draft 54th place by the Detroit Pistons . He did not make the leap into the NBA, Paulding began his career as a professional basketball player at the Israeli club Hapoel Jerusalem and in 2005 moved to France to ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne . During the 2005/06 season, he achieved an average of 9.7 points in 24 appearances in the French first division. During the summer break of 2006 he moved from Lyon-Villeurbanne to Gravelines-Dunkerque in France . The American played in 33 league games for Gravelines-Dunkerque during the 2006/07 season and got 13.2 points per game.

For the 2007/08 season , Rickey Paulding , who played in the positions of shooting guard and small forward , moved to the basketball league with EWE Baskets from Oldenburg , where he signed a three-year contract. With the Oldenburg team he won the German championship title in the 2008/09 season and was elected MVP of the final series . Paulding, who became team captain in Oldenburg, has now extended his contract with EWE Baskets six times. The current working paper runs until the end of the 2021/22 season. The American declared his loyalty to Oldenburg with the fact that, as a result of the move to Lower Saxony, he and his wife quickly realized that they wanted to live together as a family in the city and raise their children. Therefore, Paulding said he refrained from accepting offers from other clubs in the following years. In 2016, Paulding, whom coach Mladen Drijenčić described as the “heart and leader” of his team in 2019, was honored with a mural on the Oldenburg team's venue. The work of art was given the word "Pauldingburg", which links his surname and the city. In the 2008/09, 2016/17 and 2017/18 game years, the American, who, in addition to his offensive strength, is characterized by his hard work in training and a professional attitude, was voted the most popular player in the Bundesliga by audience vote.

In the Allstar game of the Bundesliga he played in 2008 as well as 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2017 for the North selection of the BBL and the selection of foreign players. In 2009 he was the most successful scorer on the side of the victorious north.

In March 2020, Paulding overtook Julius Jenkins as the player with the most three-point throws hit in Bundesliga history.
