Matej Mamić (born January 13, 1975 in Duvno , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Croatian basketball coach and former basketball player.

His strengths lie in the defense game and in his three-point throws. Within one season he became a crowd favorite due to his rousing style of play and has been team captain of Alba Berlin since the 2005/2006 season. He is also the captain of the Croatian national team.

On November 26, 2005, the ALBA captain suffered a severe cervical spine injury ( spinal cord contusion ) during the game against TBB Trier . Mamić remained motionless on the ground in the fourth quarter of the game after a fair duel under the basket. The initially complete paralysis has partially receded thanks to drug treatment. Even several weeks after the accident, Mamic was in the hospital for physiotherapeutic treatment.

After visiting the Max-Schmeling-Halle again as a spectator just two months after his serious injury , Mamić ended his active career on January 26, 2006, because the consequences of his injury were too limited for top-class sport. He then worked as a youth coach in Berlin and trained in 2007/08 Alba partners TuS Lichterfelde in the Pro B . In 2008 he returned to his homeland and became sports director at KK Cedevita in Zagreb .

Mamic has three children.
