KK Cedevita is a basketball club from Botinec , a district of Zagreb , Croatia .

The club currently participates in the Croatian first division and is four times Croatian champions.

history

On August 14, 1991, in the Botinec district of Zagreb, the idea of a new association was awakened by some young enthusiasts. From then on you roamed the lower leagues of the city district. The small suburban club played under the name KK Botinec outdoors because they didn't have a hall yet. Shortly afterwards, his games were moved to the sports hall of the elementary school in Botinec. During the civil war in 1992 they were briefly called KK Stribor . In 1993 the home games were moved to the Trnsko hall where KK Zagreb also played its home games. The reason for the change of hall was the qualification for the second Croatian league, which one missed. Since 1994 one played through changes in the competitive structure in the Croatian B-1 league (comparable with the third division). A year later, Roland Janković worked for the club, which also landed its first strong sponsor. Through this sponsor, the Hiron company , the name was also changed to KK Hiron Botinec , in return the company director also joins the basketball board.

After further changes in the board of directors, but also the expansion of the same, the club succeeded in 1998 to rise as champions in the A-2 league.

In 2000 Jakša Vulić, formerly a player, took over the club as coach and one year later took him to the A-1 league, the first Croatian league. In the very first year they achieved the best placement and came in 5th behind KK Cibona , KK Zadar , KK Split and KK Zagreb . They consolidated themselves in the league and played their first European Cup season a year later. In the FIBA Cup you reach the quarter-finals, you failed because of the later Cup winner Mitteldeutscher BC from Weißenfels. After a few years they wanted to go one step further and qualify for the Adriatic League. In 2005/06, the Atlantic Group became a general sponsor and changed the name again, since then the association has been called KK Cedevita . As a result, the first American professional basketball players appeared for the club. It was Craig Forth and Cliff Hawkins .

The last major success was recorded this season when they failed in the semifinals of the Croatian Cup at the eventual winner KK Zadar .

After a season of absence, the old coach Jakša Vulić is coming back. In the meantime he was at KK Široki . The dream of the Adriatic League continues to this day.
