St. Thomas (Pretzien)
The village church of St. Thomas is a listed church building in Pretzien , a district of Schönebeck in the Salzland district ( Saxony-Anhalt ). The church is a station on the Romanesque Road . It belongs to the parish of Gommern & Pretzien in the Elbe-Fläming parish of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .
History and architecture
The Margrave Albrecht the Bear had the Romanesque hall church built in quarry stone in 1140 . It was placed under the patronage of the Apostle Thomas . The half-timbered tower topped with a hood was built in 1796.
Murals
The wall paintings in the interior date from the 13th century, they show the usual images of this time, such as Christ in the halo and Mary next to John the Baptist in the apse , these images are surrounded by saints, prophets and angels. The choir is decorated with depictions of the wise and foolish virgins, Isaac with his sons and Lazarus. These fresco secco paintings , which were painted over around 1300, were discovered by the restorer Anna-Maria Meussling in the 1970s and exposed on an area of 92 m². They were then secured. The other paintings, such as B. the balancing of the soul, have arisen more recently.
Furnishing
The baroque interior was created in 1740. The goblet-shaped, twelve-sided baptismal font on a round base dates back to Roman times. Behind the organ is the “Holy Grave”.
The organ was built by Reinhard Hüfken from Halberstadt in 1992; the disposition created Matthias Eisenberg . The instrument has 17 registers , which are divided into two manuals and pedal . The installation of the Zimbelstern was completed in 2008.
