About this picture

Am Große Bruch is a municipality in the Börde district in Saxony-Anhalt . In the hamersleben district there is a branch of the association community Westliche Börde .

geography

The community Am Große Bruch is located between the city of Oschersleben (Bode) and the Lower Saxony state border. The name of the community in the western Magdeburg Börde is based on the valley of the Great Break , a 50 km long lowland, which - traversed by the Great Graben - extends from the Oker in the west to the Bode in the east. The area north and south of the Great Rift is characterized by fertile hill country. The meadows of the lowlands, which used to be characterized by impenetrable swamps, are now used as pastureland. To the east of Neuwegersleben and Neudamm there is a nature reserve about ten square kilometers.

Community structure

The following districts are identified:

history

The community on the Great Break was created on July 1, 2004 from the voluntary amalgamation of the previously independent communities Gunsleben, Hamersleben and Neuwegersleben. It was re-established on January 1, 2010, when the communities Am Große Bruch and Wulferstedt merged to form a new community Am Große Bruch.

coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on May 22, 2012 by the Börde district and registered under No. 2/2012 in the Saxony-Anhalt state archive .

Blazon: “A blue wavy strip in silver; above four red ears of corn tied together at the stalks to form a sheaf, below on a curved silver shield base a two-towered red monastery church with roof turrets and seven arched windows. "

The spatial division through the former marshland of the same name characterizes today's landscape. Until the construction of the new dam at Neuwegersleben, individual parts of the community could only be reached by ferry. This spatial division is represented by the blue wavy bar that divides the shield spatially. At the same time it stands as a symbol for the Great Break, which also gave the community its name.

The colors in red and silver or red and white are based on the colors of the former Halberstadt diocese, which also belonged to all parts of the community and the monastery in Hamersleben, and on the colors of the existing historical local coats of arms, which mostly show these colors.

The ears of corn are to be seen both as symbols for the particularly fertile Börde soil of the districts and in their number symbolically for each of the four districts. There is also a certain historical continuity in the fact that the ears of corn also played a major role in the coat of arms of the previous administrative unit. The ring that surrounds them represents the union of the communities in the new administration.

The monastery below stands on a curved shield base. It depicts the former St. Pankratius monastery in the Hamersleben district, which is just as higher up than the other parts of the community. It is the view from the east, which was chosen because the east choir in particular makes the monastery in its Hirsau architectural style unmistakable and thus enables the recognition value of the original building structure in the stylized coat of arms.

The former Augustinian Canons' Monastery is celebrating its 900th anniversary in 2012. It can be seen in the landscape from afar from all directions and it dominated and shaped all parts of today's municipality until its secularization in 1805. So z. B. the district Neuwegersleben its foundation and the multiple reconstruction solely due to the work of the canons in the monastery of Hamersleben, which enjoyed architectural and social in its heyday far beyond today's national borders, even across Europe.

The coat of arms was designed by the Halle historian and heraldist Marc-Robert Wistuba.

mayor

In July 2011 Eva Stroka was elected mayor.
