Wulferstedt is a part of the community Am Großen Bruch in the district of Börde in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

Wulferstedt is located in the eastern part of the Großer Bruch , 5 km from the Bode . The flat area south of the Great Rift gradually rises towards the southwest to the Huy ridge . The area around the Großer Graben - formerly an impenetrable swamp area - is now a nature reserve of around 10 km² . The city of Oschersleben (Bode) is 8 km, Halberstadt 20 km away. In the south, the Wulferstedt district borders the Harz district .

The old brickworks was designated as the residential area of the former community.

history

The place Wulferstedt first appeared in a document in 967. The St. Martin Church in Wulferstedt was consecrated in 1787. In 1480 and 1790 the village was destroyed by fires. The last reconstruction left an almost closed half-timbered ensemble , which is easily accessible to those interested through an educational trail on the local and architectural history with a focus on half-timbered buildings.

As part of the village renewal, the village community center, which includes the mayor's office and a sports hall, has been extensively renovated in recent years. The post mill in Wulferstedt, which was elaborately reconstructed in 1996, was destroyed in a hurricane in 2002. The mill has since been rebuilt from parts of the Lauenroth post mill ruins from the Dreileben community, 22 km away . The Dieckmann mill is another post mill to the southeast of the village.

In 1998, the municipality won the state winner in the competition Our village should become more beautiful, our village has a future and took third place in a national comparison.

The Wulferstedt day care center is now located in the former sheepfold, which has a checkered past: a women's labor camp was housed here during the Third Reich, and after the war it served as a refugee camp.

On January 1, 2010, the previously independent municipality of Wulferstedt merged with the municipality of Am Großen Bruch to form the new municipality of Am Großen Bruch.

coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on April 28, 1995 by the Magdeburg Regional Council.

Blazon : "In silver, a black, resisting wolf on a green shield base."

The wolf comes from the seal that the community has held since 1919. Furthermore, it is a reference to the knight dynasty of the same name that once resided there and had two wolves in their coat of arms. This coat of arms corresponds to a traditional historical model.

The colors of the former parish were black - silver (white).

The coat of arms was designed by the Heraldic Society "Black Lion" Leipzig.
