history

Today's Colbitzer Heide Brewery was founded in 1816 as a top-fermenting Gutsbrauerei Colbitz .

In 1870 the brewing company Friedrich-Christoph Ritter began modernizing the company and secured its own water supply by building wells. In 1872 the brewery was re-established under his leadership as Heide-Brauerei Fritz Ritter . At this time, Ritter also received the water rights necessary for a brewery.

A large number of types of beer were produced, mostly bottom-fermented brewing, such as B. light lager , Doppelmärzen , Doppelmärzen- Bock or malt beer . But even top-fermented beers such as wheat beer or brown ale "Puparsch Bang" were produced. Initially only draft beer was delivered, but bottling began as early as 1884.

The brewery remained a purely family business until 1959. After that, like many private companies in the GDR , it became a company with state participation. Initially it traded as Heide-Brauerei Fritz Ritter KG , and from 1972 as VEB Heide-Brauerei Colbitz. From around 1980 she was, such. B. also the Diamant-Brauerei Magdeburg and the Hasseröder beer brewery Wernigerode , part of the VEB Beverage Combine Magdeburg .

New beginnings

On June 1, 1991, the brewery was transferred back to the great-grandchildren of the company founder, Barbara Schreiter and Klaus Niemer. This was followed by extensive modernization to the state of the art at the time in the 1990s with an investment of 16 million DM .

In November 2012, the Colbitzer Heide brewery filed for bankruptcy. On September 1, 2013, the Hofbrauhaus Wolters from Braunschweig bought the company for 450,000 euros. The Braunschweig company stated its goal to establish the Colbitzer brewery as a new home brand for the region. Under new management, the brewery started as an independent company Colbitzer Heide-Brauerei GmbH . Today's bottle filling system is designed for a throughput of 20,000 bottles per hour. The barrel filling system can fill up to 50 barrels with 30 or 50 liters per hour. The new brewhouse went into operation in May 2014 .

As a sponsor, the brewery supports sports clubs such as FSV Barleben .
