Joseph Gerard Gallagher (born May 4, 1964 in London ), known as Joe Gallagher , is an English - Swiss chess player and chess book author.

biography

Joseph Gallagher became International Master in 1987 and has held the Grand Master title of the World Chess Federation FIDE since 1991 . He became British Champion in 2001, but has lived in Switzerland since the late 1980s, where he won the national championship six times (1997, 1998, 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2012). In January 2015 he is number seven in Switzerland behind Vadim Milov , Yannick Pelletier , Sebastian Bogner , Nico Georgiadis , Florian Jenni and Werner Hug .

Gallagher is also known as a book author on various chess openings . He is particularly considered a supporter and specialist in the defense of the King's Indian .

Joseph Gallagher lives with his Swiss wife in Neuchâtel NE .

National team

The Swiss national team Gallagher took from 1998 to 2014 in all nine Chess Olympiads in part from 1997 to 2015 all ten European Team Championships and at the World Team Championship 1997th

Club chess

In the British Four Nations Chess League (4NCL) Gallagher played in the 1998/99 season at Home House , in the 1999/2000 season at Index-IT , from 2000 to 2002 at Beeson Gregory and from 2002 to 2009 at Guildford A&DC . He won the 4NCL in 2001 , 2002 , 2004 , 2007 and 2008 .

In the Swiss National League A , Gallagher played for the Biel chess company until 2007 , with which he won the team championship in 2000 , 2001 and 2004 . From 2008 to 2010 he played at Lausanne Le Joueur , from 2011 to 2014 and again since 2018 at SK Réti Zurich , where he became Swiss team champion in 2011 , 2013 and 2014 .

In the German federal chess league Gallagher played from 1996 to 2002 at SV Castrop-Rauxel and from 2002 to 2004 at Werder Bremen .

Gallagher played in the French Top 16 from 2004 to 2006 for the Association Cannes-Echecs .

He took part in the European Club Cup in 1986 with Streatham & Brixton London and in 2005 with SG Biel .
