Werner Hug (born September 10, 1952 in Feldmeilen ) is a Swiss chess player .

Life

Hug became Junior World Champion in Athens in 1971 and received the title of International Champion from FIDE in recognition of his success . In 1975 he won the Swiss individual championship . Between 1972 and 2014 he took part in chess Olympiads 14 times for Switzerland , also in the team world championships in 1985, 1989, 1993 and 1997 and in five team European championships between 1973 and 2005. In 1979 he set a world record in simultaneous chess in Emmen near Lucerne : he played simultaneously on 560 boards and won 385, drew 126 and lost 49 games. In February 2015, it was number 5 in the Swiss ranking.

Hug plays with the Zurich chess company in the National League A of the Swiss Team Championship and was Swiss team champion in 1971, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1978, 1987, 1999 , 2002 , 2003 , 2005 , 2008 , 2009 , 2010 and 2016 . He also took part in the 1975/76 and 2006 European Club Cup with SG Zurich .
