William Nicholas Watson (born April 18, 1962 in Baghdad ) is an English chess player .

Life

William N. Watson was named International Master by FIDE in 1982 , and was named Grand Master in 1990. In 1992 he won the English championship in rapid chess , in 1994 the British championship in Norwich . Watson's Elo rating is 2501 (as of May 2017) and his highest rating of 2560 was achieved in July 1992. Watson has since ended his professional chess career and is now working as a lawyer at the renowned law firm Slaughter and May .

Watson achieved top positions in the following tournaments:

National team

William Watson reached second place with the English team at the 1988 Chess Olympiad in Thessaloniki , and he also took part with England at the 1989 European Team Championship in Haifa .

societies

In the German Federal Chess League, Watson played for SV Castrop-Rauxel from 1993 to 2002 . In the 2016/17 season he played for Munich SC 1836 in the Oberliga Bayern. In 1996 he took part in the European Club Cup with the Barbican Chess Club .
