In the 2000 season of the Swiss Bundesliga in chess there was a duel for the title between the defending champion chess club Birsfelden / Beider Basel and ASK Winterthur . The direct comparison ended 4: 4, both teams made another draw. So the points on the board had to decide, and Winterthur had the upper hand here. From the 2. Promotion game to the 1st Bundesliga

The winners of the two second division seasons qualified for the promotion match with SK St. Gallen and the Club d'échecs de La Chaux-de-Fonds . The competition took place on September 23rd. La Chaux-de-Fonds prevailed 5-3 and thus rose to the 1st Bundesliga.
