Kichijōji
Kichijōji ( Japanese 吉祥寺 ) is a neighborhood of Musashino , a Japanese city in Tokyo Prefecture . Kichijōji is not a separate administrative unit, but the name of several districts of Musashino: Kita-chō ( 北 町 , German district north ), Higashi-chō ( 東 町 , German district east ), Minami- ( 南 町 , German district south ) and Hon -chō ( 本 町 , German district center ).
The name comes from the temple Kichijō-ji, which fell victim to the great fire of 1658, one of the four great fires in the Edo period . Although the temple was rebuilt elsewhere, the settlement kept its name. In 1889 Kichijōji was combined with three other villages to Musashino and in 1893 it was incorporated into the capital area.
In the eastern part is the Kichijōji station , where the JR Chūō main line and Chūō-Sōbu line and the Keiō Inokashira line meet.
Kichijōji is considered a hip residential area, as it is only 15 minutes away from Shinjuku with the Chūō-Express and attracts many artists and foreigners and has a recreational area with the Inokashira Park .
Around the station is the city center with the Sunroad-Passage, some Depāto , cafés , discount stores, good restaurants (in addition to Japanese cuisine with, among others, yakitori , sushi , fugu , mainly Chinese , French and Italian cuisine ). Inokashira Park is south of the station . At the northwest end of the city is Seikei University .

The Kichijōji Station was built in the 1899th It was not until after the Second World War that it gradually began to develop as a popular meeting place, with markets and department stores being set up around the train station. The first large department stores opened in the 1960s, and jazz cafés and jazz clubs began to accumulate in the 1970s . The jazz scene has meanwhile moved to Asagaya , but thanks to the Musashino Art School , Kichijōji has retained its name as an artists' quarter.
