The United States Chess League (USCL) was the championship of team chess in the United States, which was held from 2005 to 2015. This last consisted of 20 teams; The game was played on 4 boards. On August 25, 2016, USCL President Gregory Shahade announced that the 2017 competition would be replaced by the international Professional Rapid Online Chess League .

Organizational form

The competition was divided into a preliminary round ( regular season ), in which each team competed ten times, and a final ( playoff ), in which the most successful teams played the title in the knockout system . In the preliminary round, the teams were geographically divided into regional groups (mostly in the Eastern Division and the Western Division , in 2014 in the Eastern Division , Western Division and Southern Division ) and played mostly against teams of the same group; apart from the last edition in 2015, some competitions were played against teams from the other groups. About the preliminaries placing first the number of team points then the number of board points decision (one point for a win, half a point for a draw, no points for a defeat), (one point for a winning game, half a point for a drawn game , no Point for a losing game). The team line-ups had to be based on the USCF rating (the national rating of the USA), however deviations were permitted if the difference was a maximum of 50 points. The average rating of the four players used had to be below 2401; for this calculation, ratings above 2600 were set to 2600 and ratings below 2000 to 2000. All competitions were played on the Internet Chess Club server . The reflection time was 75 minutes (60 minutes if one team was based in the UTC-8 time zone and one team was in the UTC-5 time zone ) for the entire game; From the first move on, each player also received a time credit of 30 seconds per move until the end of the game. A descent was not planned. Only players who played at least two competitions in the preliminary round were allowed to play in the final round.
