Theodor Ghițescu (born January 24, 1934 in Bucharest , † November 22, 2008 in Bucharest) was a Romanian chess player .

He won the Romanian individual championship once: in 1963 in Bucharest. He played for Romania in twelve Chess Olympiads : 1956 , 1960 to 1974 , 1978 to 1980 and 1984 . He also took part three times in the European team championships (1965, 1973 and 1977) and in the 1985 team chess championship in Lucerne .

In 1961 he was awarded the title of International Master (IM), and in 1986 the title of Honorary Grand Master (HGM).

He was a civil engineer by profession .
