Master class 2005/06
In the Meester class 2005/06 the 83rd Dutch team championship in chess was played. Dutch team champion was U-Boat Worx / De Variant Breda , who won their eleventh title in a row, but withdrew their team after the season. For the last time this season, the first four places were played in a play-off.

mode
The 10 participating teams played a simple round-robin tournament in the preliminary round . The last two were relegated to class 1, the first four qualified for the play-off. The play-off was carried out in the knockout system, all four places were played.
Game dates
The preliminary round competitions were held on September 24th, October 15th, November 5th and 26th, December 17th, 2005, February 4th, March 4th and 25th and April 23rd, 2006. The play-off competitions took place on May 13 and 14, 2006 in Enschede .
Preliminary round
Even before the last round, the defending champions U-Boat Worx / De Variant Breda and Hilversums Schaakgenootschap had two play-off participants. Hotels.nl/Groningen , SO Rotterdam and the Leidsch Schaakgenootschap were still fighting over the other two places . All three clubs won the final round, with Groningen and Rotterdam claiming third and fourth places. Homburg Apeldoorn and the Stukkenjagers Tilburg had moved up from class 1 . While Apeldoorn achieved relegation, Tilburg and HWP Sas van Gent had to relegate directly. In addition, U-Boat Worx / De Variant Breda withdrew its team after the season, so that for the coming season, three teams will be promoted to the master class.

Semifinals
In the semifinals, Groningen, who was third in the preliminary round, met Breda, who was second in the preliminary round, and in the other competition with Hilversum and Rotterdam, the winner and fourth of the preliminary round met. In both competitions, the teams with better preliminary round placement could clearly prevail.

While Breda defended his title with a clear 6½: 3½, Groningen retaliated in the game for third place with a narrow 5½: 4½ for the group defeat.
