Ivan Tscheparinow ( Bulgarian Иван Чепаринов ; scientific transliteration Ivan Čeparinov ; FIDE spelling Ivan Cheparinov ; born  November 26, 1986 in Asenovgrad ) is a Bulgarian chess player who has been eligible to play for the Georgian Chess Federation since July 2018.

Career

His father Nedeltscho (Bulgarian Неделчо) (* 1958) taught him to play chess at the age of five. Since Tscheparinov's third place in the reserve group in Wijk aan Zee in 2000, he had all the norms for the title of International Master . the title was awarded to him in October 2001. He has been a grandmaster since October 2004. He met the required standards in June 2003 at a GM tournament in Pančevo , in September 2003 at the I Alberto Concello in Mondariz , in March 2004 at the IV Abierto Intl in Dos Hermanas and in April 2004 at the Bulgarian one Individual championship in Sofia .

successes

In 2000 he was Bulgarian youth champion, in 2004, 2005 and 2012 Bulgarian champion. In Spain he won several tournaments. At the 2005 World Chess Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk , he got into the third round, eliminating Alyaksej Fjodarau in the first round and Vasyl Ivanchuk in the second round . In the third round he then just lost in the tie-break to Magnus Carlsen . At the Essent tournament in Hoogeveen , he won the Open in October 2006. In April 2007 he finished fifth at the European Championships in Dresden and won the Sigeman & Co tournament in Malmö . At the 2007 World Chess Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk, he reached the quarter-finals after knocking out Mexican grandmaster Juan Carlos González Zamora , Vladislav Tkachiev , Şəhriyar Məmmədyarov and Wang Yue . He was eliminated again against Magnus Carlsen. At the 2009 World Chess Cup he defeated Jurij Kryworutschko in the first round , but failed in the second round to Viktor Bologan . In November 2010 he won the Masters group at the Kilkenny Chess Congress in Ireland, in February 2014 he won the Tradewise Festival in Gibraltar .

With his highest rating to date of 2713 in January 2008, he was ranked 19th in the FIDE world rankings.

National team

With the Bulgarian national team, Cheparinov took part in the Chess Olympiads in 2002 , 2004 , 2006 , 2008 , 2010 , 2012 and 2014 and the European Team Championships in 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011 . He played for Georgia at the 2018 Chess Olympiad and the 2019 European Championship.

In Bulgaria, Tscheparinow played for Naiden Woinow , with whom he took part in the 2010 European Club Cup . In Spain he played from 2007 to 2012 for the team of CA Magic Mérida , with which he was Spanish team champion in 2007 and 2009 and took part in the European Club Cup in 2007 and 2008. In 2007 he won the competition with the team and achieved the best individual result on the fifth board. In the Spanish team championship in 2016, Tscheparinov played for CA Magic Extremadura , in 2019 he played again for the team and won the title. With PGMB Rostov-on-Don , Tscheparinow took part in both the Russian team championship and the European Club Cup in 2013 , and he won the Dutch master class in 2006 with U-Boat Worx / De Variant Breda . In the Chinese team championship, Cheparinov played for the Tianjin team in 2017 and for Shenzhen in 2018 . He won the British Four Nations Chess League in 2018 with Guildford A&DC . In the German Bundesliga Tscheparinow played in the season 2018/19 for the SV 1930 Hockenheim , in the season 2019/20 he joined the SG Tower Kiel on.

Second activity

Since the beginning of 2005 he has been the second of Wesselin Topalow . Cheeparinov conducts computer analysis for Topalov and is held responsible for many of the successful innovations in Topalov's openings . The manager of Tscheparinow is Silvio Danailow , who also looks after Topalow.

The refused handshake

At the Corus chess tournament in Wijk aan Zee in January 2008 , Tscheparinow lost his game to Nigel Short without a fight because he refused to shake hands with him at the beginning of the game. After a protest by Danailov, the referee's decision was reversed and the game was rescheduled, with the condition that Cheeparinov apologized and Short shake hands. Short had repeatedly criticized Topalov and Danailov in the past. Short won the game made up for.
