Silvio Danailow ( Bulgarian Силвио Данаилов , born April 21, 1961 in Sofia ) is a Bulgarian chess master , manager of the two former FIDE world champions Ruslan Ponomarjow and Wesselin Topalow . From September 2010 to August 2014 he was President of the European Chess Union .

Life

Danailow was third in 1980 at the European Youth Championship. In 1983 he was shared first in the Bulgarian championship, but lost the subsequent playoff against Dimitar Donchev with 1.5: 2.5. In 1984 he obtained the title of International Master . He has not played any Elo-rated games since 2000 and is therefore listed as inactive at FIDE (as of January 2015).

Danailow has been the manager of Topalow, which became FIDE World Champion in 2005, since the early 1990s . He is also the organizer of the M-Tel Masters tournament, which has been taking place in Sofia since 2005 .

In July 2007, the FIDE ethics committee reprimanded Danailov for his behavior during the World Cup fight Topalow against Kramnik .

On September 29, 2010 Danailow was elected President of the European Chess Union to succeed Boris Kutin . He prevailed against his competitor Ali Nihat Yazıcı from Turkey with 30:24 votes. In 2014 Danailov lost the office to Zurab Asmaiparashvili .
