Marian Petrov ( Bulgarian Мариан Петров ; * 14. September 1975 in Veliko Turnovo ) is a Bulgarian chess - grandmaster , coach, theorist and author.

Life

In 1992 in Mangalia and 1994 in Varna he took part in the junior competitions at the Balkaniaden and won five points from eight games (+5 = 0-3). With the Bulgarian team, he secured the gold medal at the 1992 event. Petrov completed courses at the National Sports Academy Sofia and graduated with a bachelor's degree in chess education.

In autumn 2002 he represented his country at the Chess Olympiad in Bled, Slovenia . As the second reserve player, he played ten games (+3 = 3 −4). In the same year he was also Bulgarian champion. At the European team championships he took part in 2001 and 2003 (in the second team). In 2007 he reached fourth place at the San Sebastian Open and in 2009 he came third at the Arctic Chess Challenge held in Tromsø .

Petrow played in Bulgaria for Naiden Woinow's team , with whom he took part twice in the European Club Cup , in Germany for SV 03/25 Koblenz . In Belgium he played for L'Echiquier Amaytois and KSK 47 Eynatten , in Great Britain for Wood Green Hilsmark Kingfisher and in Sweden for Schack 08 and SK Rockaden Umeå . He has published a book on modern Benoni defense . Its highest ever Elo rating of 2549 dates from September, 2010.

Petrov has been a grandmaster since 2010 , he fulfilled the required standards in April 2007 at the XXX Open Int Ciudad de San Sebastian in Donostia-San Sebastián and in February and March 2010 at two tournaments in Kharkiv .
